SREE Letterhead

Call for Membership
August 2006

The Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness is now accepting charter membership registration. To review membership options and to register for SREE membership please visit our web site at: www.educationaleffectiveness.org/pages/membership.shtml

Approaching education from a variety of disciplinary perspectives (e.g., education, psychology, sociology, economics), SREE members share an interest in the use of scientific methods to study problems of educational effectiveness in reading/literacy, mathematics and science education, social and character development, affective and emotional development, and educational equity/equality. SREE’s charter membership will be comprised of researchers and educational professionals who will help lead and shape the development of the Society. Researchers and other professionals working in the field of education and related fields who focus on educational effectiveness may join as “members.” Graduate students who are interested in questions of educational effectiveness may join as “student members.”

The creation of an initial core of charter members is one of the most critical phases of SREE’s development. Important leadership roles that will support the development of SREE will be drawn from the cohort of charter members. From a substantive perspective, studies that will appear in SREE publications and conferences will likely be drawn from the SREE community. The specific benefits of membership include:

  • Reduced rates for conferences and publications;
  • Opportunities to participate in committees central to the mission of SREE and voting on issues and offices that will influence the development of SREE;
  • Access to password protected portions of the SREE website that will contain resources to support studies of educational effectiveness;
  • Participation in a community of researchers and educational professionals who are committed to a vision of applying scientific methods to education research.

In the first year of the Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness' operation (August 1, 2006-September 1, 2007), special rates for charter membership will be offered at $85 for regular members and $35 for student members. Beginning in September of 2007, the membership rate will be set at $135 for SREE regular members and $50 for student members.
